It is no secret that Thom Yorke and his cronies have always been lovers of electronic music. From the early beginnings of Radiohead the band have grown from being a typical ’rock’ band into an innovative, alternative and thought provoking group. Over the years electronics have crept their way slowly but surely into the Radiohead sound; from their now classic Kid A LP with its techno infused anthem Idioteque all the way through to their most recent opinion dividing album The King Of Limbs. Whilst not recording with Radiohead Thom Yorke has found time to remix DOOM’s track Gazillion Ear and collaborate with some of underground electronics finest producers including Four Tet, Burial and Flying Lotus. Not only that but he has given people a view into his musical mind with his genre hopping DJ sets at venues across the world including Flying Lotus’ Low End Theory, London dance haven Plastic People and his secret DJ slot at this year’s Glastonbury with long time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.

Now Radiohead have given up tracks from their latest album to some of their favourite producers to get behind the buttons for a series of vinyl released remixes and I have to say the Oxford boys have got great taste. The first duo to get the nod were Caribou’s Dan Snaith and Montreal based Jacques Greene which was then promptly followed by Nathan Fake and Mark Pritchard a.k.a Harmonic 313 taking over the reins, and I’m glad to say Radiohead aren’t stopping there. The next two instalments of the remix series include the likes of Lone, Pearson Sound, Four Tet, Thriller, Illum Sphere and Shed. Not only that but the series looks sure to continue for at least six to seven editions if the email I received from Radiohead’s official website is anything to go by. So I’d keep my eyes peeled if I were you....

“We’re not EXACTLY sure how many there will be in the series as more remixes are still coming in, but we think it will be around 6 or 7.”

Paul White - Trust

I told you to trust me, because in the meantime I'll be here....

Paul White is undoubtedly one of the hardest working producers to grace God’s green earth; this man’s work ethic is incredible. He first came to my attention with his debut LP The Strange Dreams of Paul White. The mainly instrumental album is like a vortex into the producers musical mind; psychedelic, trippy, sample heavy hip-hop at its finest. Paul White is the UK’s answer to Madlib, take one listen to his debut and you’ll know what I mean. Soon after his debut came Sounds From the Skylight named after his London attic studio The Skylight. Although Sounds From the Skylight didn’t venture too far from the sound he mastered on his debut it saw a slightly more experimental production style being developed. This set him up nicely to take us on the acid laced journey of his third LP Paul White and the Purple Brain. Paul White was given access to the back catalogue of cult Swedish psyche guitarist S.T Mikael and he jumped at the chance. Using his MPC mastery he delved further into the trippy hip hop unknown with incredible results.

Now he is back with his fourth album in two years Rapping with Paul White. Hip-Hop has always been his first love and this album has given him a chance to collaborate with some of his favourite MC’s including Danny Brown, Homeboy Sandman, Tranqill, Jehst and Guilty Simpson. The first single to be lifted from the LP is Trust featuring Guilty Simpson. Veteran rapper Guilty Simpson lays down his impeccable Detroit slang over a dark distorted horn laden beat provided by White. Not content with giving away his debut LP for free the good people at One Handed Music are giving away three tracks from Rapping with Paul White for free as well. Jamie XX - Far Nearer / Beat For

Closer than close, closer than you can ever imagine....

I know that here at Secret Peter we already featured Far Nearer back in 2010 but we thought this would be a perfect time to admit to our readers that we have a slight man crush on Jamie XX, and we don't care who knows it!

Jamie's recent productions have been impeccable, from his snare infested remix of Adele to his incredible reworking of the late Gil Scott Heron’s final studio album I’m New Here. There seems to be no stopping Jamie and now with the release of his first solo single via Numbers it seems he has no intention of lowering the standard.

Far Nearer is a beautifully constructed calypso infused club banger, perfectly timed for the creeping signs of summer. On the flipside the silentone brings us back into the cold and harshness of winter with the sinister Beat For. This track is stripped back bass music at its best, with its metallic drums, pumping bass line and ominous rising chords designed to defecate over any willing dancefloor (yes that’s right I said defecate).

Dauwd - Could It Be/Shimmer

Change you heart, look around you. Change your heart, it will astound you....

These days trudging through my emails after a long day at work has become somewhat of a chore but now and again you receive one that crops up from nowhere to pleasantly surprise you.

Last week I received an email from Alex Clap of Pictures Music with the opening line ‘Got an absolutely brilliant one for you here!’ I knew this was going to be an email worth reading. The email was to introduce me to the sounds of a little known producer named Dauwd. Not much is known about Dauwd apart from that his real name is David Hilali and he currently presides in Liverpool. What I do know is the good people at Pictures Music are offering up two tracks from the upcoming producer in exchange for nothing but your measly email address. If you are feeling generous you can ‘pay what you want’ for the two tracks which I’m sure the Pictures folk would definitely appreciate as a small token of goodwill for all their hard work introducing us to excellent artists such as Koreless, Lapalux and Dark Sky.

Bringing together the future boogie swing of Floating Points and a jittery two step Koreless vibe beautifully, Could It Be is the made for the floor track of the two, whilst Shimmer sees Dauwd flexing his ambient soothing style, reminiscent of Scotland’s own Boards of Canada. Essential listening!

There will be a vinyl release from Dauwd around August of this year via Pictures but until then listen and download to the tracks below and help spread the word!

Zomby - Natalia's Song

The foulest stench is in the air, the funk of forty thousand years....

In music these days it seems that your style and sense of fashion are sometimes more important than your actual output but there are still some producers out there that let their music do the talking, one of these producers is Zomby.

A very secretive and mysterious character Zomby has become one of the UK’s finest underground producers. Without the use of clever marketing and media buzz Zomby has gripped the world’s electronic music lovers with intrigue and talent alone. After releasing his debut rave inspired LP Where were you in 92 and several singles and EP’s such as One Foot Ahead Of The Other and the beautiful Digital Flora Zomby has finally announced the release of his latest album Dedication on 4AD Recordings. Not only has Zomby gripped the general public with his eerie productions but it also seems that his peers have taken notice of his forward thinking style with Zomby remixing the likes of Martyn and Animal Collective to name but a few.

Dedication is to be released on the 11th July 2011 but until then Zomby has offered up an incredible single in the form of Natalia’s Song which was first featured back in 2010 in a guest mix from Kode 9 and Burial for Mary Anne Hobbs’ final Radio 1 show.

Natalia’s Song is the first single to be lifted from Dedication which Zomby himself describes as ‘a dedication to someone much loved and missed’. Obviously you can tell that Zomby must have lost someone dear to him recently and just listening to 'Natalia’s Song' you can hear his sadness. Drenched in melancholy and grief the track is muffled with white noise and ambience which is wrapped around the rising chords, with the sampled female vocal only adding to the sorrow.

Natalia’s Song is available now via 4AD on a strictly limited one sided 10”.

Down at Secret Peter we love new and exciting music and we have been thinking of a way to broadcast our love of new sounds to the world and we believe we have come up with the answer; the answer is a Hidden Place.

Hidden Place is going to be a new radio show/podcast dedicated to young emerging producers from across the globe committed to the future sound of music.
