Jessie Ware - 110%

Your words alone could drive me to a thousand tears...

Jessie Ware has been knocking around on the underground dance scene in London for a while now. She has provided guest vocals for the likes of Joker and SBTRKT and also teamed up with the electronic soul man known as Sampha, but now it seems the London based songbird is heading out on her own and personally I’m glad she has.

Maybe a month or two ago Jessie released the video for Running, an absolute beauty of an R’n’B tinged slow jam produced by Bristol’s own Julio Bashmore. Unlike most R’n’B you hear these days the sugary sweetness is nowhere to be seen as Running is drenched in heartache with Jessie’s vocal floating through spacious synths and the thudding of the kick drum.

Now Jessie has returned with another Julio Bashmore produced track 110% apparently recorded around two years ago (according to Bashmore) and it seems that once again this partnership has struck gold. Upping the tempo slightly from her previous releases this track is one for the warm up DJs as it’s sure to get people moving on the dancefloor before the party properly gets started.

I believe the key to Jessie’s success is the people she is choosing to work with and she is definitely choosing wisely. If she carries on working with the likes of Sampha and Julio Bashmore she is sure to get some brilliant results. At the moment Jessie is making some of the most beautiful, soulful and heartbreaking electronic music I have heard for a long while. There is obviously a lot more to come from Ms. Ware and if she carries on this rich vein of form her album Devotion is set to be something truly special.

Jai Paul - Jasmine

I know I've been gone a long time, I'm back and I want what is mine...

Two days ago the internet was lit up by the return of the man known as Jai Paul. Although only having official released one single via XL Recordings the incredible BTSTU, when your first track is that good you only need one release.

Although it's been a long time coming Jasmine seems to be a sure fire hit with it's deep metallic bass line coupled with Prince inspired guitar licks and Jai's soulful falsetto voice. This is deep electronic music for the late night/early morning sessions. I personally listened to this track around 10 times yesterday and it looks like a lot of people did the same thing with the track hitting around 112,000 plays in two days. It also seems that other musicians are glad to see Jai is back with Jessie Ware, Mount Kimbie and Disclosure all heralding his return yesterday.

No release details yet but it looks like it will be released by XL recordings, let's hope it's sooner rather than later.

MyOwn - Crazy In Love

I look and stare so deep in your eyes, I touch on you more and more everytime...

Recently there has been an influx of producers remixing and editing R&B tracks, some better than others. Jacques Greene mastered the art on Another Girl and Kelly Rowland's Motivation and techno head Blawan got the Resident Advisor track of 2011 with his take on Brandy's Wanna Be Down. Now it looks like there is a new producer who is biting at the heels of these dance music heavyweights going by the name of MyOwn.

I stumbled across this edit courtesy of Throwing Snow after he posted it via his Fuckbook page and I am eternally grateful to him for doing so. There isn't much information out there about MyOwn except that he/she is Russian and enjoys a nice smoke now and again...

"Hi here in russia we are poor like africa but its cold so if do a small 10$ donation i could buy some POT and make a personal free download track with my blessing for a brother or sister who helped and inspired me."

Probably whilst high MyOwn created an absolutely sublime edit of Beyonce's Crazy In Love which I have been listening to at least twice a day for the past few weeks. With a simply crafted beat and mournful chords layered underneath Beyonce & Jigga's vocals the original is completly flipped on it's head. This is addictive listening, now if only I could get a download I would be a happy man...

Lapalux - Gutter Glitter

Halfway between the gutter and the stars...

It’s been a while since I put the modern equivalent of pen to paper and actually written about some music, so to start off 2012 I bring you the delectable sounds of Lapalux.

Stuart Howard aka Lapalux has been on my radar for a while now after hearing his Many Faces Out Of Focus EP released via our good friends at Pictures Music. Many Faces Out Of Focus showcases Lapalux’s expertise in creating moody, complex electronic music awash with layers of noise and hints of R’n’B. Following this astonishing debut he has also fired out some incredible edits of Gwen Stefani & AlunaGeorge which have been on constant rotation on my headphones recently.

It seems that Lapalux’s sonic rhythm + blues has made enough noise to get noticed across the pond by none other than the mighty Brainfeeder camp with Lapalux releasing his latest EP When You’re Gone via the prolific label on February 7. With the Brainfeeder family behind him it looks like this latest release is going to open up a lot of doors for Mr Howard and introduce a whole new legion of fans to one of the UK’s finest and most innovative producers.

Listen to Gutter Glitter below or you can cop it via Pitchfork for absolutely nothing. For a cheeky taster of his forthcoming release you can take a listen to a sampler of When You're Gone here.
